Seriously, I think its been a little over a week since my last post. I apologize, life just seemed to get really hectic and sprialing faster this week than I could juggle - especially in the work career/area (long days, lots of fuck-ups, and a bunch of paperwork). Here's the summary of the primal comings/goings of that week:
24 hour fast followed by an unhuman sized binge (shown above).
Switch from normal breakfast routine to large servings eggs + meat with veggies, and a smaller lunch.
Duck salad with grilled veggies and mandarin oranges
Roasted Nuts
Chipotle meatballs
Chipotle Lime Salmon with Roasted Veggies
Stuffed Tenderloin
Farmers Market Sausages (I just want to say that they were awesome - it was the sunshine farms cranberry pork sausage. SO EFFING GOOD.)
I'll only touch on a little bit of it b/c I'm an uuber failure at blogging this week.
24 hour fast and unhuman sized binge
I've been doing 12-14 hour fasting about once a week on average since October - usually a thursday when the contractor plans a huge concrete pour. That means that I'm too busy at work to think about food, let alone do anything else. I've also done a couple 20 hour since starting to eat paleo - as long as I kept busy, I didn't think about food, and if I didn't think about food I was okay. Oddly though this was a bit different, as it wasn't coincided with anything at work . I ended up done work that day earlier than expected and just didn't eat. It wasn't too bad - I did notice that after about 16 hours I got a bit of a chill that stuck around and hunger was kind of a gradual onset - I wasn't ravenous, but I was ready to eat.
I've been calling it my warrior's feast - but my wife just looks at me strangly when she hears that. It comprised of:
-Home made salmon Jerky (garlic, tabasco, cherry wood for smoking, onion powder, worschecishshhire (sp?) sauce, oven on 250 F approx 6 hours)
-Whiskey and Carmelized Onion Turkey Quarter (Stove top - fat for cooking, whole onion, about 1/2 cup whiskey, tobasco sauce & cook on low - slow cooker would work beautifully approx 3 hours)
-Roasted Asparagus and Broccolini (Olive oil & salt)
-Swiss Chard (Butter + steamed)
-Kale chips (Olive oil and oven, approx 45 min in oven with salmon)
-Sliced veggies (Just for crunch - peppers, carrot, celery - served with a little home made guacamole)
-Spiced Yucca Root (Don't do it. Its so dense, totally made it difficult to dominate the rest of the meal. Has a weird texture too. Yucca root, rosemary, parmesan, garlic, butter. Boil & mash like potatos)
-Grilled japanese egg plant - Not my favorite apparently.
Desert was Primal Pumpkin Square topped with walnuts, pumpkin seeds, coconut and iced cream
I made a good showing, and downed about 3/4 of it, my wife helped a little bit, but she wasn't as into it (except for the Turkey and Salmon). Some of the kale chips, sliced veggies, and salmon were left for the morning, and I ended up chucking about 1/4 cup of the spiced yucca.
Morning Shake Up
You're going to love my nuts
I tried roasting my first set of roasted nuts this week as well. I really liked them - but they have kind of a cold weather feel to them. I think I'll most definately make them again though. They have nutmeg, cloves, allspice, cayenne, honey, butter, and salt. It takes about 25 mintues to make a batch (approx 1Kg of almonds?)
Spicy Sweet Nuts I used almonds, the recipe called for pecans, I used honey, recipe called for maple syrup.
That's probably enough about food, you're probably nearly chewing your arm off.
Workouts since last post:
Friday - 3K barefoot run + Sparticus
Saturday - Off
Saturday - Off
Sunday - Ultimate Practice with S&T (for the record, I've never played before and they did a phenominal job teaching me. I'm really excited for our upcoming season.)
Monday - Off
Tuesday - 8K slow Barefoot Run + weights
Wednesday - Off
Thursday - 8K barefoot run in bad mood (translated to much faster + harder than I probably should have)
Friday - Long long walk + some frisbee practice
Saturday - Back the Truck Up
Sigh, I ended up running more than I wanted this week, unfortunately. Its a good outlet for work stress, and it doesn't require me to be mindful. Weights require a mental presence, that you don't need when you're running most of the time. Upcoming this week - some playground time, some gardening, ONE RUN, and an ultimate practice.
Have a good one!
That is some intense food making there Pat... impressive.
ReplyDeleteFact about Yucca: I also DISLIKE IT! That is all we eat in South America... every day we ate Yucca at some point and i even helped an ederly lady pull it from the ground and mash it up... (for the record she didn't even let me eat it after all my hard work ha-ha)... but yes.. in fact I think i even ate yucca pancakes... its quite the staple there. IF Chandra really wants to lose a shit load of weight .. take her travelling hahahahaha.
I am glad Chandra and you are on the Ultimate team.. your both fun to have and you should pick up a pair of spandex for under your shorts that way you won't be left with so many grass burns.. and it might protect your baby making parts a little better ;)
See ya tuesday
I have treat for you and Chandra. We had a big feast tonight of moose ribs and there is way too much for us to eat.
ReplyDeleteI will take it to work in the morning,
Karl
S&T - I DO need spandies. But it prob should be a unitard if I'm trying to keep my rashes down - the worst ones were on my lower leg & on my hip. We used to wear them for rugby under our rugby shorts (You should probably shudder because it is as sketchy as it sounds...) but for different reasons.
ReplyDeleteI don't know that it'll help my baby maker - that was just a really bad landing. I think it'd happen anyways with the superman, outstretched belly flop that I was rocking.
Did you find the Yucca really dense and kind of powdery too? Do. Not. Like.
Karl - I can't wait! I'm drooling already. Seriously.
