Every day is a new adventure

Hope you're having a good Saturday.  I figured I would update my little blogosphere.  I have an arseload of pictures and food to upload.  I REALLY do like to take pictures of food.  It'll all make its way up eventually I imagine.

Things from my back log to look forward to this week:
Grilled Turkey and Artichoke w/ squash or carrot soup (Dinner tonight)
Jumbo Tiger Shrimp Salad with Coconut lime dressing
Paleo Inspired Cheesecake (oh yes, this is good.)
Paleo lifestyle results thus far
Not all Yogurt is created equal

Now for today's meat and potatoes:

GROCERY SHOPPING!

Yea thats right.  That's how I start my weekend.

This week's mission - DEMOLISH these veggies.  Oh man I'm excited.  And also, apparently so were the cashiers...  I guess its not very often someone comes through their cashier and drops an entire cart full of produce and 4 meals of meat.  No pop, no bread, no chips, no candy - its quite a staggering scene of food.  They were asking me all sorts of questions as they rang it through, and packed it (There were 4 at my till looking at the food, I felt kind of awkward).

Q: What is THAT?
A: That is a kohlrabi
Q: What do you do with it?
A: Eat it?  My wife and I peel these and eat them like carrot sticks, or celery.  They're crunchy and tasty.
Q: Can you cook it?
A: I would imagine so?  I've never done it, but I'm sure you could.

Q: What exactly do you do with the Artichoke you bought?
A: You could steam it, bake it, roast it...  I'm going to try grilling it tonight with garlic and butter.

Q: Is everything you're buying organic?
A: Not really.  I pick and choose, some things are organic - apples, broccoli, cauliflower, lettuce, mushrooms, peppers, tomatos.  Some items with thick skins, or which you don't eat the skins, it doesnt matter as much - onions, some of the specialty veggies, oranges, the yams...stuff like that.

Q: Are you vegan?
A: (eggs, yogurt, and meat next) I guess not.

Q: Is the organic red meat worth it?
A: Yes, I actually don't have much luck eating not organic red meat - My kidneys used to go haywire.  Haven't tried not-organic red meat recently and I'm slowly integrating this back into my diet.  Two weeks ago was the first piece of red meat I've eaten in about 2 years.

The greedy nuts:

What did I buy for meat:
4 turkey legs, 2 fillets of fresh catfish, an organic beef roast, and omega 3 eggs

Veggies & Fruit:
Salad, lettuce, kohlrabi, artichoke, yams, carrots, broccoli, cauliflower, sprouts, tomatos, red peppers, avacados, mini portabella mushrooms, crimini mushrooms, Asparigus, apples, oranges, bananas, limes

Dairy and Misc:
Organic Plain yogurt, Organic cream cheese, Organic cream (For coffee), Organic coconut milk

Lunchfast (Its not brunch, it was a late lunch, but first thing I ate today):

A delicious omelette.  Not shown in the ingredients - oregano, chille flakes, and pepper for the eggs and walnuts for innards.

My work out for the day:

Its not entirely planned yet - but here's what it will involve: two junk tires, one rope, my truck, an empty section of road, and a sledgehammer.  Interested? Check in tomorrow and I'll let you know the grimey, sweaty details...  As my wife gives it a go!  Muahhahaha!

Now, enough computer time!  Go enjoy the spring day!

  1. This is a great post. I think I will have to copy you one day on my blog. I always have the same experience at the 'Grokery' store when people with boxes and cans of stuff are looking at my order along with the cashier wondering what the hell I will do with all that healthy food...I always say that I will eat it as well!
The workout sounds great...I will join you another time. In the future I have some good stuff in my neighborhood that involves trees, soccer nets, extremely steep river valley hills and heavy rocks!
